Library Computer Facilities

The Library offers a combination of multi-function computers that include productivity software (i.e., word processing, spreadsheet and PowerPoint software) and research computers that enable access to databases and the Internet but do not include productivity software. Currently multi-function PCs are available in the Collaboratory, located adjacent to the Library Reference area. Access to these computers is restricted to currently enrolled CSU Stanislaus students, faculty and staff.

PCs located in the Reference and Library catalog areas require a CSU Stanislaus ID for login. Public access computers for individuals not affiliated with the University are available in the Circulation Hall. Use of computers is on a first-come, first-served basis. Users are requested to limit their time on a computer to 30 minutes when others are waiting.

Stand-alone terminals are also available in the Library catalog area and on the third floor and provide access to the Library Catalog.

For assistance using the Library's computers or with computer searching, please consult a Reference Librarian.

Computer Facilities for Users with Special Needs: The Library attempts to work with students to accommodate special needs.  Workstations equipped with Assistive Technology are available by appointment. Please see a Reference Librarian if you have needs that go beyond existing equipment and/or software.

Wireless Access: Wireless access is available in the Reference Desk area and also in the Group Study Area on the west side of the Library.  Configuration information is available at the Reference Desk.  A brief guide on "How to connect to the wireless network" is available at the Reference Desk.

Printing, downloading and e-mail: Printing, downloading and sending records and search results via e-mail is available for most databases, including the Library Catalog.  All Library PCs allow downloading to diskette or USB drive (also referred to as flash, key or USB flash drives).  Printing is ten cents per page.  Currently registered students can use their existing OIT Print Accounts for printing in the Library. (Funds may now be transferred to print accounts online.)

Remote Access:  From locations on campus, users will automatically be able to access Web-based Library resources.  CSU Stanislaus-affiliated users (currently registered students, faculty and staff members) can also take advantage of the Library's proxy service to be authenticated to access licensed (i.e. restricted) Library resources from locations away from campus.  No set-up or configuring of browsers is necessary: the proxy service will prompt you for input when you attempt to access a restricted resource.  For questions about access or assistance searching databases and other electronic resources, please contact the Library Reference Desk (telephone 667-3233).

Computer Labs and Word Processing: The Collaboratory computer workstations in the University Library include the same software found in other computer labs operated by the Office of Information Technology. These labs, offering e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet and other applications, are located throughout campus and are available to currently registered students, faculty and staff.
